The Estonian Dominican Family and Maarjamaa Kirjastus are launching a new book series aimed at providing Estonian readers with access to the spiritual heritage of the Dominicans in Estonian.

Over the centuries, the cultural, spiritual and intellectual contributions of the Dominicans have been significant. Drawing on their more than eight hundred-year history, the Dominicans today offer spiritual support to those in Estonia and in 144 other countries who are searching for and longing for a deeper encounter with God. Their contribution to the development of spiritual, intellectual and cultural life is still viable today.

A new book series introduces the diverse facets of the Dominican charism. We are convinced that the works by Dominican authors appearing in this series will help the reader to understand more deeply the richness and timeliness of the Dominican message. Considering the ties that have developed between the Dominicans and Estonia over the centuries, we consider it important to make the thoughts and works of important Dominican authors, both past and present, available to the Estonian reader.

The series is opened by Brother Adrien Candiard OP, a French Dominican living in Cairo. His works, which combine a keen eye for contemporary society with a clear, accessible style of expression, have been warmly received both in the French-speaking world and internationally. In his book Do not be afraid. Reading the Gospel in a time of crisis Brother Adrien offers hope and encouragement drawn from the Gospels at a time when many are experiencing uncertainty and fear.
