Publishing house Maarjamaa and the Dominicans in Estonia are preparing the publication in Estonian language of the meditations which pope Francis asked cardinal Timothy Radcliffe to present at the general sessions of the synod on synodality. In order to introduce the subject and the book, this website offers the opportunity to read the first of these meditations in Estonian:

Publication of all meditations is planned for the autumn this year.

As part of the celebrations for the beatification of Archbishop Eduard Proffitlich, a reading of the names of Estonians who died as a result of repression was organized in the chapter house of the Tallinn Dominican Monastery.

DOMINICAN ACTIVITIES IN ESTONIA

In Tallinn since the 13th century

1990. In the 1990s, the Dominican Order, or Order of Preachers, experienced a new rise in Eastern Europe – monasteries that had been nationalized during communist regimes were returned, and young people who felt a calling to join the order found their way to the Dominicans. The Dominicans returned to Tallinn in November 1996.

In Tallinn, the brothers settled on the territory of the medieval monastery at 33 Müürivahe Street, where they also organised a chapel. The reconsecrated monastery was dedicated to St Catherine of Siena. In their black cloaks and white robes, the friars once again moved about the Mungahoov, as they had done centuries ago, a sign that even in a rapidly changing world there is timeless value and continuity.

Today, the Dominican mission in Tallinn is still active. Brother Alain Arnould OP from Belgium lives in the small monastery. There is a Dominican laity – a group of people who share the spirituality and goals of the order. The Tallinn mission falls under the jurisdiction of the French province of the order.

Our values

The core values of the Dominican Order that guide our life and work

MEDITATIO - PRAYER

Prayer and worship are at the heart of Dominican life. Liturgical prayer, both personal and corporate, helps us to deepen in God's word and draw strength for our mission.

STUDIUM - STUDY

Dominicans value education and the acquisition of knowledge. Theological immersion and continuous learning enable us to better understand the faith and share it with others.

COMMUNITAS - FRATERNAL LIFE

Community living and fraternal support are an essential part of the Dominican Order's way of life. Community life creates strong bonds and helps to understand the spirit of the Gospel more deeply.

PRAEDICATIO - PREACHING

Dominicans are called to proclaim the Gospel - through preaching, teaching and personal example. Our mission is to share the truth and lead people to God.
